Business Problem
While the organization had massive amounts of data, the quality of data was not sufficient. Lack of data labeling, lineage tracking, and standardization made it difficult to derive value. The issues can be summarized by the 5 Vs of data:
- Velocity - Information not ingested quickly enough
- Volume - Systems cannot scale to handle data size
- Value - Data not labelled or marked to be easily found later
- Variety - Structured and unstructured data of different types made it difficult to manage
- Veracity - How trustworthy is the data? Who is the data steward?
Innovative Solutioning
Using a cross-capability team of Solution Architects, DevOps experts, Data Engineers, and Data Scientists, a comprehensive, orchestrated Cloud-first platform was built on top of OSDU which could handle the massive volumes of data that needed to be ingested into the system rapidly. In unison with our team of management experts overseeing the development efforts using Lean Six Sigma and Scaled Agile (SAFE) methodologies, the organzation's culture was transformed into a data-centric modernized workforce which could excel and work collaboratively.
Value Realization
Business units across the organization became more collaborative as users worked on a common data platform which was easily searchable using our search and delivery interface. The data ecosystem became less fragmented, leading to improved efficiency in value chains.
